Returning to Cordelia . . .
It’s been over fifty years since I’ve returned to the place of my first job and just as many years since last seeing the love of my life. There’s never been another woman even remotely close to Cordelia.
More than anything, I wanted to take her with me. To make her my wife. Love her then, and forever. But it was not to be. Fate was not fair to us then and won’t be changing its mind now.
We were not allowed to be a happily married couple and weren’t even allowed to kiss, date or have sex. Sure she was a Patient of the Asylum and I was an Orderly . . . but that’s no reason for love to be forbidden. She was extra special and I loved everything about her!
Rules or not, I would sneak her out of her room late at night. We’d quietly come down the circle staircase from her room in the south tower. I had keys to every room, so getting around wasn’t a problem. We just needed to be quiet.
Once down the stairs and on the ground floor, it was a walk through the main hall. Just take a right at the arched entrance, and out the side service doors. We would go for late night walks. Hang out by a campfire and always make love.
